Around the Web and Blogosphere (10/13/11) – Political Edition

Here are two articles with regards to voting for Ron Paul. What is interesting and useful is both articles are from people that could be said come from basically the same side of the theological tracks: “Should Christians Vote for Ron Paul” by Stephen Halbrook & “Yes, Christians Should Vote for Ron Paul; or why Treebeard Is Not a Good Example for Christians” by Bojidar Marinov.


Some good articles by Bill Einwechter on government and politics: “Government and Jurisdiction” , “Evangelical Political Compromise”, “Government” and “ The Biblical Model for Civil Government.” There are a host of articles at his website, Darash Press, that I would highly recommend reading.


Chuck Baldwin writes on the “Black Regiment” or as some have called the “Black Robed Regiment” which refers to the clergy that spoke up during the countries war for independence: The Black Regiment Led the Fight in Our War for Independence.

William Einwechter has a new site, Darash Press, that will be place to view his many writings. Darash is a Hebrew verb menaing to search out or study. I have greatly beneffited from Mr. Einwechter’s writings. Here is what the About Page says:

Tim Challies has posted an uncharitable review of the NCFIC documentary Divided, here, where he encourages others not to even watch the movie. Scott Brown has posted a response; Tim Challies’ Harsh Review of Dividedthemovie.com. As has Fred Wolfe: Response to Tim Challies Review of Divided the Movie. It is interesting that he would want people not to watch Divided” It’s a destructive message wrapped in a poorly-made documentary. The church would do well to ignore it.” but does not speak against reading such books as the Twilight series in his review of them: “But I know there are some, perhaps myself included, who may allow an older teenager to read it.” By the way I would encourage you to watch Divided as it is free online for a short time. It may step on some toes, obviously Tim Challies had his stepped on, but often that is what we need to wake up and see what is going on around us.



Jesse Murch has an article entitled: Forgetting How to Blush? He references Jeremiah 6:15
” Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.”

How true this is, for myself as much as anyone. We need to learn to live by God’s word and realize what we need to be ashamed of. 1 John 2:28 speaks of us abiding in Him so that we do not shrink away in shame when he appears. We need to realize that we live before God now so that we live in a manner that we should not be ashamed of and that can only be done by abiding in Him and living by His word through His power.



Yes, the Governor of the State of California signed into law that Gay History, by the way this will of course be manipulated history, needs to be taught. If Christian parents thought it was safe to send their children to the government indoctrination centers before, and it was not, it should be exceedingly clear now that they are not a place for children of believing parents. By the way if one thinks Charter Schools are the answer you need to think again since Charter Schools, from what I can discern from the rules regulating them, are held to the same guidelines and standards as the government schools, you just get to do it at home. The New Geneva Academy has an article on this called: God’s Wrath Kindled Against the Ungodly Statist Schools. The article does a good job of showing how we are to view this action.

Well it has been some time since I have posted one of these, life sure has been busy.

If you want to start an argument try talk about patriarchy.  The problem is that most people seem to either not understand patriarchy or understand it from what they have seen in someone who may have abused it.  The issue is we need to be seeking what God says about leadership in the family and patriarchy is simply the outworking of God’s all sufficient word in the family.  Here is a good article on patriarchy:  The Tenants of Biblical Patriarchy. 

Here is an article from Bill Roth regarding entrepreneurialism: 7 Signs God Wired You for Entrepreneurship.  I am not sure about you but number 7 is the one I struggle with the most as risk is uncomfortable and who wants to be uncomfortable.  The truth is God will put often put us in positions that may seem risky so that we learn to rely on Him for me entrepreneurism may be one of those areas.

The New Geneva Ambassador School Blog has a good article on government schools entitled: The Evil Conquest of the Government Schools.  Christians need to wake up and realize the nature of the government schools they are willingly sending their children to.

The Winton’s new album Rest Assured is out and it is very good. If you like bluegrass I am sure you will enjoy this album, and their first one.  We are also glad that they will be stopping buy a friends house for a home concert at the end of August, Lord willing.  You can hear some of their music from their first album and couple songs from the new one here.

Gary Demar writes a good article on the economy at the American Vision site: How to Kill an Economy. In speaking to both government spending and individual spending he ends with this: “Resisting government spending is good and necessary. But more important is resisting our own temptation to spend uncontrollably. Only by effectively exercising self-control we will be able to resist Larry Summers, Obama, and the rest of the socialist crowd in high places.”


Devvy Kidd wrote an article posted at the American Covenanter entitled Beck: Restore America's Honor at the memorial of a white supremacist?. If you have been brought up on a constant dose of Abraham Lincoln as a saint, as I was, and as Glenn Beck puts forth be prepared to be shocked but the challenge is not to ignore what is put forth here but to investigate and seek the truth yourself.



The American View has some good comments by Pastor Joe Morecraft III: Godless Conservatism Has Failed; Time For Christians To Act Like Christians, Proclaim Christ’s Lordship Over Politics, Too:

“Godless, “conservative humanism” is “just as devastating to this country as liberal humanism.” He added that “the time is over” for this kind of secular conservatism saying: “It has stopped nothing!”

Emphasizing the importance of “Christianizing Christians,” he said Christians must start acting like Christians first. This, he said would anger liberals and conservatives.

Civil government is created by God. “Government’s power does not come from the people, he said. “It comes from God! And God is the source of political power, too!””

Theological Mediations is a good blog that I recently came across. You can find what the owner of the blog describes as; “primary source documentation that involves my exploration into the revealed will of God as viewed in Calvinistic history.”


You can be praying for a couple families; Pray for the Harris family as Greg Harris’ wife, Sono, was called home to Jesus yesterday. Also keep Joni Eareckson Tada, and her husband Ken, in your prayers as she deals with her cancer. I would also recommend reading an article I read some time ago and one that Joni has linked to on her site entitled: "Don't Waste Your Cancer" by John Piper.


At The New Geneva Leadership Blog there is a good article by Stephen Halbrook called: The Bible Opposes Socialism. The point made in the article are:
1) The Bible’s civil code does not authorize socialism.
2) Socialism violates the Bible’s commands against partiality
3) Socialism is a form of public slavery
4) Socialism is a form of covetousness
5) The New Testament does not sanction socialism
6) Socialism is idolatrous
7) Socialism is symptomatic of a lack of faith in God
8) Socialism opposes “The Golden Rule”
9) The Book of Acts does not support socialism

Israel Wayne has a good article on the Brush Arbor site called: I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag. How many of us know the origin of the Pledge of Allegiance yet we often fight for it tooth and nail. For believers it is imperative that we know its origin and what it means as we are to truly only to pledge allegiance to God and not to any state. As an aside I have been so busy with little time to write. But I am working on converting a study on the Trinity that I did a few years ago to a number of blog posts and hope to have they done in the next week or so.

Devon Maddox at The Salt Room writes on: Sovereign Church Growth. He has a great quote by David Wells from his book The Courage to be Protestant:

“The truth is that there is nothing in our postmodern world that is a serious threat, or an insurmountable obstacle, to the will of God. This is true of his saving will as well. He is sovereign in the way he begets faith today as he is over the sparrow that flies or falls. He will grow the church. Today, we no longer seem to believe this, and want to aid his cause by our weak and foolish capitulations.”

How true this is as the church today seeks after all but God for growth. Actually, the whole idea of “growth” is often an issue as well. Of course the professing church today would not admit to this lack of trust but actions often speak louder than words and those actions say the church today does not trust God to grow His church. Personally I think this problem stems from a faulty view of God’s sovereignty; a view that places God as being restrained by our desires and will and not the other way around.

R.C. Sproul Jr. posts on: What Is Reconstructionism? What Is Theonomy? In many circles, even reformed ones, the mention of “theonomy” or “reconstructionism” raises a myriad of objections but I have found that most of these come from a misconception of what it is. As R.C. states, and others before him have stated: ““Autonomy or theonomy!”……We will either have man’s law, or God’s law and only a fool would choose man over God.”


How far are we in the US from this: It’s Getting Dangerous Out There — A Preacher Is Arrested in Britain. Are pastors, and laymen for that matter, in the US ready to preach the truth, all of it, in the face of prison? If we do not do so now in the face of not much more than ridicule how we will do it when true persecution looms.


At the NCFIC website there is a good message from Jeff Pollard called: The Trap of Family Idolatry. Those that think the NCFIC worships the family should listen to this message as Jeff Pollard deals with what he calls “Familyolatry” and how to avoid it.


Steve Camp writes on: TREASURING THE TREASURE OF GOD'S WORD...the infallible divine plumbline for all matters of life and godliness. He deals with preaching out of the word of God rather than simply out of ones good thoughts and opinions, no matter how correct they may be.

With the census fast approaching and the government further intruding into our homes here is article with at least one option for the census: Census Law. Also here is a link to Kevin Swanson sharing some thoughts on the census: Guns and Census:Honor to Whom Honor is Due. We all have to make our own decisions but one thing is clear, especially with the extended survey some may get, the government wants to know about you. This is clearly not one of its functions as Romans 13 shows but it is simply the direction the state heads when it sees itself as god. But, the true God already knows us, even the hairs on our head (Matt 10:30), and does not need a census to know these things.



The March Welcome to the Continuing Collapse (Exposing Government Schools: The Youth Ministry of the State Church of Secular Humanism) by Bruce Shortt has been posted.



Many in the professing church today have no problem separating Christ from government. However, Romans 13 says that government officials are to be ministers or servants of God and thus as believers should we not want to vote for the most biblically qualified men to be those ministers? Can God use the pagan for His purposes,of course. But our duty as believers should be to have godly qualified men as leaders, men who seek Christ and His will first and foremost. As this article articulates: It is Insanity Without Christ and presently many in the professing church are continually voting for insanity.

At the NCFIC Blog there is a post with an excerpt from Scott Brown’s upcoming book on youth ministry: A Child of the Movement. I can relate to this excerpt as I too have been a youth minter and read all the books. The problem was, even if unintentionally, I gave more weight to the pragmatic reasoning of the books over the sufficiency of Scripture to speak to this area, as it speaks to all of faith and practice.


For those of you that are reading, or have read, R.J. Rushdoony’s Law & Liberty, there is now a study guide out, thanks to The Chalcedon Foundation: Law & Liberty Study Guide. This is a great book and one that I would highly recommend.


Over at Voddie Baucham’s blog the February Welcome to the Continuing Collapse (Exposing Government Schools: The Youth Ministry of the State Church of Secular Humanism) by Bruce Shortt has been posted.


At Steve Camp’s blog there is a great sermon by Charles Spurgeon: God’s Will and Man’s Will ….the tension of divine sovereignty and human responsibility. As always I appreciated the words of Spurgeon.

We have been watching a DVD series on the history of the Christian Church called From Terror to Triumph by Dr. Marshal Foster. I would highly recommend this series as Dr; Foster shows that in the midst of terror and seemingly overwhelming odds God has continually brought about the triumph of the church.

Thanks to Steve Halbrook’s Theonomy Resource blog here is a good article by Mike Warren on: Some Objections to Postmillennialism Answered.


Over at the NCFIC website Scott Brown lists: Top Ten Things Ungodly Cultures Hate That the Bible Tells Women. Any argument with this list is with God and His word.

On the American Vision’s site is an excerpt from Joel McDurmon’s book God versus Socialism: A Biblical Critique of the New Social Gospel called What is the State? One can know who their, or others, God is by who or what they put their trust in and for many that is the state. We live in a time when the state is seen as the solution to all man's problems and God is seen, if at all, as a fall back plan. The state does have a place in God’s economy but it is not the position and place it holds in the US and much of the world today.


While I am sure the substance of these sermons may be difficult for some I think Pastor Weavers Sermons on the Civil War are a must hear. Whether, when you are done with the series, you hold to his views or not the material he provides is that which must be dealt. Since most history is written to broad brush the Civil War so as to make the South bad and the North good and the war being all about slavery Pastor Weaver will shed light on aspects you may not have heard or contemplated. You can download the 14 sermons here. I would also recommend his sermon on the Black Robed Regiment that speaks on the part pastors took in the revolutionary war and stands in stark contrast to today’s call for churches to sit on the sidelines when it comes to politics.

PyroManiacs ask some good questions in their post: Nineteen questions for signers of "The Manhattan Declaration.” The issues the declaration addressed were important but not more important than the Gospel it downplayed to allow for unity of the signers. While I think that many of the signers were well meaning I think the message given with regards to the Gospel is that some issue are just too important.

Here is a review by The New American of the new DVD  "The Mysterious Islands" produced by Vision Forum: "The Mysterious Islands" Challenges Darwin. We saw it a couple nights ago and it is very well done. I am sure that many an evolutionist will despise it but that is of no consequence. What is sad is that there will likely be many a professing Christian that will dislike it as well. I have read a few comments around the web that speak about bias in the move but who is not biased, just as evolutionist are biased. Better to be biased by the very word of God than the word of man.

At VisionaryDaughters.com they have some good insights as it relates to the Twilight series and the draw it has on many women and girls, even those professing Christ, on their post: How Twilight is Re-Vamping Romance.



Voddie has a couple disturbing videos on the direction Arne Duncan would go with schools in Voddie’s blog post: Education Secretary Arne Duncan in his own frightening words. Duncan couches his talk in words that may sound good to the world that sees the state as messiah but the truth is he is seeking to move the center of life from the family to the school and thus the government. You may also notice that when he speaks of non-profits using the school grounds he does not say who will dictate their agenda as it will undoubtedly be the government. When he mentions family issues he does not seek to correct those problems but instead makes plans to accept those problems and work around them. This all from a man that ran what could be termed a failed school system in Chicago. This man along with his president has an agenda and it is far form biblical.



Steve Camp has a good post, He must increase – I must decrease, with regards to the issue of the cult of personality. I am saddened when churches decide to expand by having satellite churches where the lead pastor is piped in to the service in some form or fashion. I always wonder why the church does not have others to fill that role and why one person needs to be so front and center. But, before we dump the entire problem on the pastor alone remember it is the people that make up the cult and we need to check our fleshly desires at the door so as to avoid this. This is not saying we cannot have a pastor we enjoy to listen and learn from but we always need to make sure it is the word of God that is the draw not the person delivering it.

This looks like a good documentary: Homeschool Dropouts.

“The Botkin siblings have been talking to their peers around the United States, many of whom are planning futures that do not include home education.”

Are we preparing our children to carry the mantel to the next generation.  For far to many professing believers that homeschool their main reasons are not firmly grounded in the commands found in the word of God. When this mindset is passed down to the next generation there is little stability and when a seemingly better alternative to homeschooling presents itself they will turn to that. It is when we ground our reasons for homeschooling in the all sufficient word of God and pass that on to our children that the next generation will be more intent on homeschooling themselves. It will be interesting to see what this DVD has to say.



At Kevin Swanson’s Blog he writes in his post Not Much Has Changed in 400 Years that the warning of Richard Baxter concerning who our children associate with is as true today as it was then.

First we turn our back on God and look to the state to save us, and then we wonder why Uncle Sam is committing suicide. He is not equipped to be the saviour of all men.
We have one hope – Repent! Turn back to a gracious Creator and seek to honor Him in every area of life. Otherwise, it is RIP America.”

How true.



This looks like it will be a great conference - Family Economics: A practical, Biblical Vision for Work, Wealth, Debt, and Inheritance in the 21st Century. The speakers will be R.C. Sproul Jr., Dennis Peacocke, Scott Brown, Kevin Swanson, and James Lansberry. It will be held at The Rock Church in Castle Rock, Colorado which is about 1 hour outside of Denver and is being held March 5-6, 2010. If you register by December 12th the cost is $99 per family.

"The day we cease to look to big governments and petty lords for our security, and we learn to trust in God for our daily food and our salvation, and we repent of our sins of pride, slothfulness, idolatry, and addictions, then we will no longer need the chains of institutional slavery to form our social systems. That day we are more impelled by the motivation of love than the motive of power, is when we will spend more time preaching the Gospel than enslaving our fellow men by centralizing power and wealth in fifedoms large or small."

Lee Duigon writes and excellent article entitled: Public School Teacher ‘Professionalism’: A Myth Exposed. How many shy away from their call as Christian parents to school their children because of the myth Mr Duigon speaks of. The government schools perpetuate this myth so as to retain a hold on our children and Christians need to realize this. We as Christian parents need to realize when God says He will “equip you with everything good that you may do his will” (Heb 13:20-22) the training and raising of our children is one things He will equip us for.
